While some new ministries are being created, some have lived out their time and are closed. We approved the recommendation to close Fair Oaks UMC in Fair Oaks, CA and celebrated chartering the new Hmong church in Fresno at Fresno Saint Paul's UMC.
Before lunch we celebrated four major anniversaries: Thirtieth year of Order of Deacons, 50th year of United Methodist Volunteer in Mission, 70th year of Women's Ordination in the Methodist Tradition, and 200th Anniversary of Methodism in Tonga.

Two-hundred voice choir of Tongans wowed us with singing two hymns for the 200th Anniversary of Methodism in Tonga and also singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah.
Ordination Service was in the afternoon. Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey of the Rio Texas Annual Conference gave the sermon. Presiding also with Bishop Olewine were two other bishops who have a special relationship with Cal-Nevada: Bishop Sally Dyck and Bishop Warner H. Brown Jr. Commissioned as provisional members preparing for elders orders: Mesake Joji, Tevita Pauleisia Samate, Kate Snipes, and Iunisi Tovo. Commissioned as provisional members preparing for deacons orders: Da Hye Jung, Chaitanya Motupalli, and Mark Allen Teagle. Ordained as elders: Sosaia Fineaganofo, Tupou Veikoso Taufatofua, David Seung-Heung Yang. One elder transferring from another denomination: James HyoGyum Kim.
